Business As Usual

A lot of company owners are hopeful that once the office opens, it’s business as usual. Yet, that isn’t necessarily true. In fact, there are quite a few reasons why this is probably more unlikely than likely. That doesn’t mean things are dire – it means there has to be adaptability. And this applies to you and your team members.

In part three of this series, we take a look at what happens when the doors open to your business.

A Period of Transition

Just like your team members had to adjust to working remotely, there is now a period of transition – just the opposite. Now team members have to go back to working certain hours, having to dress a certain way, and being in an office with others again.

Some may have enjoyed working at home and may not want to come back. Some may not make the transition easily and struggle. Others may surprise you by going above and beyond what you expect. The point is, you may not know everything till it’s time to open up. That is why it is important to evaluate staff and evaluate the things you learned – as mentioned it part one and part two of this series.

Reintegrate the Team By Using What You’ve Learned

One way to help is by using your own knowledge of what you learned about them. In part two we discussed how some employees will step up and show motivation and talents you didn’t know about prior to the pandemic.

What you learn about them helps you help them make the transition easier. For example, if you have an employee who does stellar work by working remotely, is it possible to allow them to continue? If not, there are other ways to help them thrive. A more flexible schedule can work. Allowing them a few days of working at home helps too. That is not possible with all types of business, and we get that. But there are always allowances you can make that please your best team members.

Entertain the Notion That Things Change

We realize you wish things had never changed. We all do. Yet, sometimes change is for the better. You may see how well some of your team members are able to adjust to any situation. And that’s the kind of employees you want.

If you do have those who do not wish to return, and it’s not possible to allow that in your business, you have the option of hiring someone else.

While you want the best for your employees, and you can empathize with them, your business has to move on if the fit just isn’t working out. The good news is that this is an ideal time to find the best talent. There are many who do not have the privilege of remotely working and are looking for the right opportunity. And while you may not want to replace someone when things are so unstable, your employees must be able to make the transition. If not, there are options that may give you a better workforce than you had before.
