Post-Pandemic Hiring

While the pandemic hasn’t officially ended, and it may be a long wait, hiring is getting back to normal for many businesses. With the availability of vaccinations and lower COVID-19 numbers, is it time to rethink the way you hire?

Your Current Recruiting Process

Recruitment know-how is one of the most important things to your company’s success. You always had to know how to pick the best talent, but the pandemic has changed some of the hiring landscape.

In the past, you needed the best and the brightest. And that hasn’t changed. What has changed, though, is the need to find those who work well with change itself. It’s not just about the right education or knowledge of the business, this is now in addition to all that. Communication is a major factor. Another is the ability to adapt. We don’t know what the future brings, and can only hope the worst days are behind us. But you need team members who flourish with different situations, even those that are unexpected.

Evaluate Your Recruitment Process

The pandemic changed how we do business. Many companies dealt with layoffs, restructuring, and shutdowns. Now is the ideal time to look at your recruitment process and see if it fits in with this new landscape.

The best of the best won’t always be at your beckoning, so strike while the iron is hot. Figure out how to reach out to this talent pool so that it’s your company that benefits, not your competition. Look at the channels you use to recruit and see if it is still working well after everything has been different. Make the changes you need to ensure you get the best there is in employees who need you, too.

Make Their Experience Phenomenal

Just as you need employees, there are plenty of those out of work. The experience potential hires have often segues into the kind of employee you get. There are a few rules that should be the norm, not just during uncertain times. One of the most important ones is to keep potential hires engaged.

Plan to inform them of every step, as often as possible. This means letting those who you don’t want to hire know as soon as you do. No one wants to wait on a job that is not interested. But don’t burn bridges either. Sometimes the person you think you don’t want is the person you find out you need later.

If you are hiring someone, keep them informed of the next steps. Companies have lost some of the best talent just by taking too long. If you know, let them know when they should expect to start, or what to expect next.

Make It Personal

We get it, business is business. Yet, you are dealing with people’s lives. If you treat potential hires as an important person, your company will benefit. Just like you have needs, so do they. The right treatment breeds loyalty, and it starts during the recruitment process.
